Lady Falcons played an away game at Cicero Prep in Scottsdale. With only a total of five players, the Lady Falcons were defeated 11-29. Leading scorer of the night was Paulina Martinez-Romo with 5 points, going 1-1 at the freethrow line, and driving down the lane twice for another two buckets. “The first half of the game was pretty good. Our defense was tough and aggressive, and we rotated correctly during the opposing teams quick ball movement. The only thing that caught us off guard was Cicero’s pressure on the ball full court. We seemed to turn the ball over quite a bit when we tried to dribble past the defenders down the middle. It didn’t help that we only had a total of 5 girls. We had one get injured half way thru the second half and so we played 9 minutes with only 4 girls. We still managed to score another 6 points, but my poor girls got tired near the end. They played a great game. Especially when down to four players, they made sure to be more active in rotating on the floor. It was a tough loss but I’m definitely proud of the way they played tonight! They displayed great effort! One last season game and we’re for sure looking for a win before we head into playoffs,” says Coach Brittany.
Lady Falcons had another close game, this time playing against the Chandler Prep Titans. Fighting for a win, the girls came up short and lost by three 10-13. Leading scorer was Tiahna Newman with 6 points, going 2-2 at the freethrow line. “We were very close! We had a lead at the beginning of the game and lost it tying at 8 before the half. We should have had this game tonight. There were a lot of opportunities we missed out on. Missed easy layups, taking outside shots rather than driving to the basket, and not running our plays all the way through. We got away from the little things, the most important little things. But I was surprised at our pressure defense. We haven’t had any time to work on a full court pressure, and I had to take a time out to explain how it worked. For the most part they got the concept and it helped. With two season games left, hopefully we can use it again and gain a win,” says Coach Brittany.
The Jr. High Girls Basketball team had their first home game of the season against the Trivium Prep Knights. Kim Aguilar lead the team with four points, making a quick fast-break layup and a 15 foot jumper in the second half. “It was a tough game, but we only hope to continue working hard in practice and focus on improving offensively and defensively in games,” said Head Coach Brittany Youvella.
