Varsity Volleyball at ASU Prep

North Pointe finished up the season tonight at ASU Prep, and took control early, survived a fight late, before taking control again and winning in five. Tonight leaders were Jaci Norton with 13 kills, Abby Rice with 11, and Chaeli Hoehn with 10,  Kenia Esquivel also added 32 assists and 10 Aces. Defensively Julia Burke had 19 digs, and Chaeli Hoehn had 10. The team grew this year, increasing it win total of two last year to five this year, and had two players finish with more than 100 kills in a season for the first time in school history. Jaci Norton with 119, and Emily Wales with 108. Defensively Julia Burke finished the season with 182 digs, surpassing the previous record of 179, set by Emily Wales last season. There are also several players who finished top 10 in the region this year.  Jaci Norton finished #7 in the region in hitting percentage, and #9 in kills, while Emily Wales finished #10.  Kenia Esquivel finished #5 in the region in assists, and #6 in Aces.  Abbie Barajas finished #8 in Blocks, and Julia Burke finished #7 in digs, while Emily Wales finished 8th. “We had a lot of growth this season, some of it was technical and most of it was mental. The program is moving in the right direction. Thank you to our seniors, who led us, pushed us, and dedicated themselves to 4 years of Falcon Volleyball.  We love you and will miss you,” said Coach Dan.

Varsity Volleyball at Valley Christian

North Pointe visited Valley Christian on their senior night tonight and lost, 3-0. The Trojans are 2nd in our region, and one of the strongest teams in the 3A Conference, and they flexed those muscles tonight. North Pointe fought hard and continued with their strong defensive form. They were led by Abby Rice with four kills along Jaci Norton and Kenia Esquivel each contributing another two kills. “Our passing really hurt us tonight, but we played well in chaos and continued to fight against one of the best teams in the state. We did everything we could, but just got overwhelmed.  It’s part of the growth process. We will continue to get better and learn from these kinds of situations for the the future,” said Coach Walsh.

JV Volleyball at Valley Christian

North Pointe’s JV finished their last game of the season against Valley Christian with a loss, 2-0.  Valley Christian was an extremely good team. Contributing to the game with great serves were Gen Agsaulio, Kristen Ryba, Ayannah Glesmann, Haley Flannagan, and Shavonne Street. Kristen Ryba, Madi Honesto and Shavonne Street also had a killer spike each. “With a whole season of experience  behind them we can use that to build on next year’s team,” said Coach Keith.

Varsity Volleyball vs Casteel

The home portion of the Falcons season wrapped up tonight with a visit from Casteel.  North Pointe continued their strong defensive play, but were eventually taken down by a stronger team. The Falcons were led by Emma Wales, Abby Rice and Jaci Norton with four kills a piece, and Abbie Barajas with two kills and three aces. “Casteel is the superior team, and should have won, but we played tough and made them work for everything. The most important thing is that we didn’t back down, we kept working hard, and set a new standard for Falcon Volleyball. This was a strong week and a big step forward in the process,” said Coach Walsh.

JV Volleyball vs Casteel

The JV Volleyball Team lost tonight to a very good Casteel High School team in two straight games. The first game was very exciting with the JV getting close at 13-15 but eventually lost. There were plenty of good serves from Gen Agsaulio, Ayannah Glesmann, and Haley Flanagan . The best serves came from Madi Honesto with four very good overhand serves, something she’s worked on all season and hasn’t done it till tonight. “There was a lot of energy on the court tonight and I want them to carry it on to our last game,” said coach Keith.

Varsity Volleyball vs Yuma Catholic

North Pointe hosted Yuma Catholic in what turned out to be an absolute barn burner that went the distance in five sets. The first two games went to extra points, 26-24 and 28-30, and the teams traded points the entire night, keeping each game close until the very end. While your Falcons eventually lost 3-2, it was a night for the record books.  Emma Wales set a new single match record of 23 kills, beating the previous record of 16 set in 2013 and Kenia Esquivel set a new single match record of 37 assists, beating the previous record of 33 set in 2008. “Tonight we realized how capable we can be when we give full effort. Each player left everything they had on the floor all night long, and it was us playing together, relying on each other, covering each other that got us to the brink tonight. It’s disappointing that we couldn’t put it away, but it’s encouraging to see how far we’ve come in two short years,” said Coach Walsh.
