Varsity Cross Country at Fountain Hills Park

Today the Falcon Cross Country team ran in the Fountain Hills Invitational at Fountain Hills Park. Nearly everyone on the team improved their times from last week. For the boys Israel Hurtado improved his time by over two minutes. Freshman Kevin Medina had a great run with a time of 23:16. For the girls Alena Cass improved by over six minutes and Faith Guy improved by almost four. “We have another meet on Wednesday that we hope to continue seeing better times,” said Coach Harrison.

Varsity Cross Country at Chandler Invite

Cross Country had the first meet of the season at Tumbleweed Park in the Chandler Invitational against over 40 other schools. The team ran well despite the humid weather conditions. Roger Gallardo had the best time for the boys with a time of 23:19. Mariah Albe had the best time for the girls with a time of 27:12. “Its good to get that first meet done so we know what time to beat next race. We are gonna work hard this week in hopes of decreasing our times,” said Coach Harrison.

Varsity Girls Cross Country at AIA Sectionals

Today the Girls Cross Country team ran in the Sectional Cross Country Meet at Cesar Chavez Park. The Falcons were one of 18 competing teams. The 5k race consisted of two loops around the park, ran mostly on grass. Sophomore Mariah Albe was the first North Pointe girl to finish in 24:50, beating her previous PR by over 3 minutes. She was followed closely by junior Ashiyah Wheeler who took 4 minutes off her previous PR.  Next to finish was senior Alexis Yanda in 25:15, sophomore Emily Morgan Henderson in 26:21, sophomore McKenzie Mordhorst in 26:26, and Deserae Mena in 26:29. Olivia Garlick finished 7th for the team. “It was great to see all the girls PR at the last meet of the season. They all worked really hard throughout the season and it paid off. I loved watching them progress as runners and bond with each other. They really made me proud today,” said Coach Beam.

Varsity Girls Cross Country at Northwest Christian Invite

The Varsity Girls Cross Country team competed at Victory Lanes this afternoon, racing a 5k across the desert hosted by Northwest Christian. Finishing first for the Falcons was sophomore Emily Morgan Henderson with a time of 28:29, followed closely by senior Alexis Yanda in 28:33. The next three girls to finish were sophomore  Deserae Mena in 29:13, sophomore McKenzie Mordhorst in 30:11, and junior Ashiyah Wheeler in 30:12. The 6th and 7th place finishers for the Falcons were sophomore  Paula Dellinger and junior Olivia Garlick, respectively. “It was a hot day for a 5k race and I was impressed with the girls’ positive attitudes. Several of the girls ran together to push each other and that’s always great to see,” said Coach Beam.

Varsity Girls Cross Country at Skunk Creek Linear Park

The North Pointe Varsity Girls Cross Country team competed at Skunk Creek Linear Park again yesterday, racing a 3.9k against Washington, Verrado, and the host team Apollo High School. It was the same course that the teams ran on two weeks ago, and almost all of the girls improved their times significantly. First to finish for the Falcons was senior Alexis Yanda with a time of 20:41 finishing 14th overall. Second was sophomore Emily Morgan Henderson in 20:48, then sophomore McKenzie Mordhorst in 20:50, sophomore Deserae Mena in 21:30, and fifth for the Falcons was sophomore Mariah Albe in 22:04. The most improved runner was junior Lissett Hernandez, who improved her time by more than 5 minutes to 30:59. “It was great for the girls to be able to race on the same course than they raced on earlier in the season because it showed that they’re hard work is paying off. I was happy to see all of them improve their times and encourage one another,” said Coach Beam.

Varsity Girls Cross Country at Moon Valley

The Varsity Girls Cross Country team competed at Moon Valley today. Competing teams included the host team Moon Valley, Shadow Ridge, and Cactus High School. The 3.1 mile course was run around the track, the baseball field, and the park next to the school. Leading the team for the girls was senior Alexis Yanda with a time of 27:17. The second Falcon girl to finish was sophomore McKenzie Mordhorst with a time of 27:59, closely followed by sophomore Emily Morgan Henderson in 28:02. The fourth and fifth to finish for North Pointe were sophomore Mariah Albe and Sophomore Deserae Mena in 28:18 and 28:54, respectively. “This was the first 5k race of the season, so it was great to see the girls push through. All the girls who ran last year improved their ‘first meet’ time significantly, and the new runners got to feel what racing 3.1 miles is like,” said Coach Beam.
