Varsity Boys Basketball defeats Glendale Prep in overtime

Resilience: the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. *See also North Pointe basketball*

The North Pointe Prep Falcons put on a show in the Nest tonight, when the Glendale Prep Griffins came to visit. Glendale Prep came in with a 3-1 region record, so the Falcons were in for a tough task. However, on this Friday night, the Griffins came to the wrong Nest. In a game that again showed North Pointe’s outstanding defense, the game was tight all throughout, with several lead changes along the way. The Griffins went up 5 with 40 seconds left. The odds were not great, but the Falcons managed to go on a 5-0 run to force overtime. Once in overtime, Seniors Joe Soriano and Felix Bedah carried the Falcons offensively leading to a 14 point scoring period. The Falcons would win this thriller in overtime 49-46 to send the Falcon Nation home happy.

“The character of this team was on display tonight. Down 5 with 40 seconds left, many teams will give up. We didn’t. We played high energy all night and refused to go down. Every single player contributed to this victory tonight. I am so proud to have the honor to coach this group of young men, who deserve this win. Now, we’re on to Northland Prep next week. WE LOVE BASKETBALL!” – Coach Lalonde

Varsity Boys Basketball vs ALA

The North Pointe Prep Falcons resumed play for the first time in 2019, by taking on the #4 ranked team in all of 2A basketball. From the get go the Falcons established that Arizona Lutheran would have to work for everything in this game. And they did. In a game that saw several lead changes, the Falcons were ultimately unable to stay out of foul trouble or get shots to fall down the stretch and lost 40-30; though the game was much closer than the final score. Danny Hyun led the charge offensively getting timely outside shots early in the game to fall to get the Falcon offense going. “Arizona Lutheran is a great team, great program and we held a high scoring offense to a low total. Ultimately our turnovers and a few miscues in other facets offensively hurt us. I am proud how well we hung in the game and had an opportunity to pull an upset over a top 5 program in our division. We will get back, practice, correct and come Friday, we’ll be ready for a showdown with the Glendale Prep Griffins.” -Coach Lalonde
