Varsity Track & Field at State Champion Prelims

On May 4, 2018, Jacob Edwards competed at the Arizona State Division 3 Championship Prelims at Mesa Community College. He came in 10th place in the 400 meter with a new PR of 51.18. “Jacob had a terrific end to his season, improving his time in the 400 meter in each of his final three meets. His relentless work ethic and willingness to get better will make him a force in the 400 meter next year. I am excited for his future,” said Coach Norris.

Varsity Boys Track & Field at Fountain Hills Friday Night Frenzy

The Boys Varsity Track and Field team competed at Fountain Hills Friday Night Frenzy on April 20, 2018. Jacob Edwards came in 4th place in the 400 meter with a time of 52.28, a new PR (personal record). “To finish the season, we broke multiple school records and set personal bests on several events. Our young men should be proud of their progress, and I am already looking forward to next season,” said Coach Norris.

Varsity Boys Track & Field at Ben Mclvor Qualifier at Glendale HS

The Boys Varsity Track and Field team competed at the Ben McIvor Qualifier on April 6, 2018 at Glendale High School. Jacob Edwards came in first in the 400 meter with a time of 52.46. Joe Soriano-Garfias came in 4th place with a new PR of 53.82. Travis Evans made the finals in the triple jump and set a new school record of 39’9.5.” “I’m very proud of the accomplishments of our young men today. With a short time left in our season, we still have much room for improvement, and I have no doubt that they will achieve their goals,” said Coach Norris.

Boys Varsity Track & Field at Peoria Invitational Meet at Peoria High School

The Boys Varsity Track and Field team competed at the Peoria Invitational meet at Peoria High School. Jacob Edwards came in 10th in the 200 meter with a new PR of 23.21. David Vargas made finals in the shot put. He placed 4th in the shotput with a new PR of 42’1”! “We competed against top tier competition and had our eyes opened to what elite athletes are capable of. Our preparation will continue to improve as we have more opportunities to prove ourselves this season,” said Coach Norris.

Varsity Boys Track & Field at ALA Invitational at South Mountain HS

The Varsity Boys Track & Field team competed at the ALA Invitational. Jay Edwards came in 2nd place in the 400 meter with a time of 52.36 which is a new school record. This time also qualifies him provisionally for state. Jay also came in 4th place in both the 100 and 200 meter with a time of 11.91 and 24.17. “Tonight was another opportunity for our men to compete at a high level, and they did just that. Attacking each practice with the same intensity as a meet will improve our performance over time,” said Coach Norris.
