Varsity Boys Track and Field at Aztec Invitational

The Boy’s Varsity Track and Field Team had their first meet Friday, March 6th, 2015, at Corona del Sol in Tempe, Arizona. All of the relay teams improved their times from last year. The 3200 meter relay, consisting of Angel Munoz, Jayson Evans, Nick Alley, and Tommy Murillo, came in with a time of 9:46.21.  The boys 400 meter relay of Alex Haw, Ahmed Mustafic, Enis Tenic, and Esteban Juarez, ran a 47.55. The last race of the day, the boy’s 1600 meter relay with Tyrice Murphy, Ian Corcoran, Enis Tenic, and Ahmed Mustafic ended the evening on an exciting note with a time of 3:49.12 improving their time from last year by 14 seconds. The boy’s 400 meter relay and 1600 meter relay teams are ranked in the top 10 of Division III. Nick Alley improved his time in the mile from a 5:47.6 to a 5:37.76 this year. Bryce McGovern improved from a 53.3 last year to a 50.65 this year. On the field side, John Helmintaler in the discus went from a 93’6″ throw last year to a 94’11.5″ this year. Joe Traslavina, who competed in the shot put, improved from a 33’6.5 put last year to a 35’4″ put this year. Esteban Juarez competed in the triple jump and has the new school record of 32’9.25″. “It was exciting to watch our athletes compete and be competitive against Division I and II schools. The athletes have been training hard, and it showed at the meet. We will continue to improve and work together as a team. The athletes really worked together as a team, cheering each other on, helping each other out, and supporting one another,” said Coach Wilson.
